Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Blvd, Cleveland, 216.421.7407, cia.edu “Przemyslaw Jasielski_Friday Lunch Lecture.”  12:15pm.  Cleveland State’s current Artist-in-Residence, Przemyslaw Jasielski, stops by Cleveland Institute of Art for their latest Lunch on Fridays lecture. Every Friday, CIA invites the public to spend their lunch hour learning about the latest trends in art and design.  Jasielski is a native of Poland currently working on an upcoming exhibition at The Galleries at Cleveland State in conjunction with his current residency.  He is also involved with The Sculpture Center and CSU’s Sculpture students during his stay.  He approaches his creative process with the attitude of an engineer – with precise planning and scientific and mathematical research.  However, he focuses on the conceptual content more than techniques or materials.  It is his intent which separates him as an artist, as opposed to an engineer.   This event is free and open to the public.  Pizza and beverages will be provided.  Located in the Ohio Bell Auditorium in CIA’s George Gund Building.  http://CIA.edu
Proximity Gallery, 1667 East 40th, Cleveland 216.262.8903 www.proximitycleveland.com “Float.” 6pm.  Downtown’s Proximity Gallery is at it again.  Just a week after the opening of their first collaborative exhibition of their own work – Gross Adaptations at BUCKBUCK – Proximity owners Alex and Beth Kelly present their latest exhibition, Float.  Float features the work of local abstract artists Mark Keffer and Dragana Crnjak.  Their work complements each other’s perfectly.  Both artists’ use of layers creates the illusion of infinite depth within their flat canvases.  Their dynamic compositions draw viewers in and reward them with details that create character in the ambiguous atmospheres.  Both artists combine organic atmospheres with hard-lined, flat-color geometry.  These contrasts in compositions seem to be trying to balance two polarized worlds – big and small, science and spirituality, nature and society.
Kalman & Pabst 3907 Perkins Ave, Cleveland.  “5th Biennial Staff Exhibit.”  Opening 5-11pm.   (K&P) is gearing up to host its 5th biennial staff art exhibit on September 27 and 28. A portion of the proceeds from art show sales will go toward the Janice Kalman Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA).

Eleh explores the textural sounds of the physical world.  Duane Pitre is an American avant-garde composer, sound artist and performer.  His work often explores the dichotomy of electronic sound and acoustic instrumentation, chaos and discipline and site-specific noise.  For this performance, Eleh and Duane will perform together as Pitreleh.  The evening will open with HolyKindOf creating dense layers of hypnotic sound featuring live, processed cello and found audio.  Tickets are $8 for MOCA members and students (With Valid ID) / $10 for non-members.

Cleveland’s IngenuityFest, the city’s annual celebration of art and technology, has become the biggest, most must-see event of the year. And this year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.  This year’s Fest will be held at the same warehouse docks as last year, behind Cleveland Browns Stadium, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Great Lakes Science Center.  However, the venue will be arranged a little differently than last year, and will feature all-new content.  This year’s theme is clouds. Organizers explain: “Head in the clouds.  Cloudy thinking.  Cloud computing.  We have looked to the clouds for centuries to dream and seek new heights.  Today we look toward the clouds as a space to store the information of our lives; as a place to live and work.  We also look with hope and fear seeing blue skies and storms in our past, present, and future.
