Woman XI, which opens this week, features some well-known local artists including Tricia Kamen, Hadley K. Connor, Laurel Herbold, Deborah Silver, JenMarieZeleznak and Judy Takacs, as well as some who may be a revelation. Once again, most are from around northeast Ohio, although a few come from as far away as Arizona.

The Akron Art Museum will greet the spring will an exhibit of work by ceramic artist Jun Kaneko called Blurred Lines.  It features what the museum calls “transformational moments” in Kaneko’s 50-year career, among them paintings and drawing, several large-scale sculptures and a site-specific installation of his 65-foot painting Mirage.   (Image Above)

In a previous creative life, Grossman was a woodworker and furniture maker, and that background informs her approach to ceramics.

This invitational exhibition includes over 70 local and national artists who were selected to create a piece of art using a blank skate deck. Each deck is up for auction with opening bids starting at $50 and go up in whole dollar increments. Hope Center for Arts and Technology,  115 Anson Way, Sharon, PA. 16146 (724) 308-5135  *building is handicap accessible.    Adam Field Workshop.”   NOC Member Justin Reese is Hosting this workshop where he teaches.   March 12th  10am-6pm w/Artist lecture from 7pm-8pm.  March 13th 10am-6pm  Cost $100 for the 2-day workshop or $65 per day.  $50 for 2-day workshop or $30 per day for students with a valid college ID.  To register go to  http://www.hopecat.org/workshop    Adam Field   -   Nature Tradition: Cultivating Inspirations in Clay.  In this two-day workshop Adam Field will demonstrate his methods for carving intricate pattern on a variety of wheel-thrown porcelain forms.  He will also demonstrate traditional Korean Onggi coil and paddle pottery techniques. From ancient Korean techniques, to innovative solutions for timeless problems, participants will develop a new perspective on creating and decorating functional pottery.  Participants will learn new skills for mapping out and carving geometric patterns in clay.  Generous discussions about studio practice, aesthetics, materials, ceramic history, and promotion and marketing strategies for the studio potter are certain to encourage individual discovery, growth, and development of fresh ideas.  Participants will gain the skills and confidence to create and decorate work in their own voice.
