“2012 PechaKucha Cleveland season is here!” 7 – 11PM. Due to its overwhelming popularity, PechaKucha Night will now be hosted in the Main Music Room @ the House of Blues (rather than the Cambridge Room of past years). Read on if you’re asking, “What is PechaKucha?”: “PechaKucha, Japanese for ‘the sound of conversation,’ features a succession of 14 designers, each explaining their work, ideas, and obsessions around art, fashion, food, life, architecture, film, furniture, music, community, and photography through a six-minute presentation (20 slides X 20 seconds per slide). The rapid-fire style keeps audiences engaged while breaking down barriers between different design communities. The goal is to expose and attract new talent and ideas, foster existing creatives that may not have a platform to show their work, and incite meaningful collaborations among presenters and audience members.” So go (it’s FREE) and meet some cool new LOCAL people. http://Pecha-Kucha.org/night/cleveland

“Cuyahoga Fugues Revisited.” Opening Reception 6pm. Cleveland gallery SPACES marks the return of New York artist Margaret Cogswell with a special kickoff affair Fri 2/3 at the Superior Viaduct venue. The timing of the event is also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the SPACES World Artists Program (SWAP), in which Cogswell was its third artist-in-residence. In 2003 she created Cuyahoga River Fugues, a haunting mixed-media installation that wove together stories gathered from steel workers, environmentalists, fishermen, historians and city planners whose lives had indelibly intersected with the crooked river. Now Cogswell returns for her second residency at SPACES with Cuyahoga Fugues Revisited. She’s revisiting the river that for the last decade led her to explore the vital and increasingly politicized role of waterways throughout the world. For her work she was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. Cool Cleveland talked to SPACES Executive Director Christopher Lynn about Cogswell’s series of drawings and a mixed-media installation based on video footage taken at the steel mills and along the Cuyahoga River.
