“Art Fur Animals: Help Cle’s Homeless & Neglected Animals.” 7 – 10pm.  Cleveland, like virtually every place in the world, has far too many homeless and neglected animals. They’re helpless and in need of a lil’ love. Art Fur Animals features a live and silent auction of individual works of art from locally and nationally recognized artists such as Douglas Max Utter, Janet Macoska, Dana Depew, Michael Greenwald, Kristen Cliffel, Kirk Mangus, Laura Dumm, Randall Tiedeman, and many others. “The Journey: A Retrospective Exhibition of the Art of Michelangelo Lovelace, Sr.”   Opening Reception: from 5-8pm.  The show will look back at Michelangelo’s career and include paintings, drawings, and sculpture.  will celebrate Michelangelo Lovelace Sr.’s 20+ year artistic career as well as his birthday. Michelangelo will speak at 6:30 pm about his life and art. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 12 noon to 4 pm.  A special attraction is planned during this exhibition. On Saturday, June 23, 2012 the AAWR will host A Dialogue with Michelangelo where Michelangelo will discuss his artistic process and take questions. “Weapons of Mass Creation Fest.” For years there has been talk about bringing a music festival to Northeast Ohio. Now such a notion is slowly taking hold in the grassroots Weapons of Mass Creation Festival (WMC Fest), which enters its third year Fri 6/8 – Sun 6/10 in the Gordon Square Arts District in Cleveland. However, music is just one component, and a smaller one at that.  The WMC Fest, the creation of Go Media co-owner Jeff Finley, is billed as the premier art, design and music event of the Midwest with 20 speakers, 20 designers and nearly 30 bands enlightening the anticipated 1,000 or so attendees. “Pedaling Art: A Celebration of Bicycle Art & Culture.” Opening Fri 5/18 @ 6 – 10pm.  Celebrate bicycle art & culture with Pedaling Art, a new exhibit opening @ Ohio City Bicycle Co-op. View visual art in a variety of media, as well as wearable art and crafts, “all of which are made from recycled bike parts or have a bike focus.”  Free, secured bike parking for those riding to the event (go for it!). “A portion of Pedaling Art sales will be donated to OCBC to help support their mission to promote cycling in Greater Cleveland. “Cleveland Asian Festival.” Sat 5/19 & Sun 5/20  You know that the Third Annual Cleveland Asian Festival will have awesome food. That’s what over 31,000 people enjoyed at last year’s Festival.  And you probably know to expect cool exhibits like martial arts demonstrations, games, competitions, free health screenings, merchant booths, artwork and live cultural performances.  This year, you won’t believe your eyes. Originating from Taipei, Taiwan, the California-based “Instant Noodles” dance crew will perform on the stage and show how they’ve been impressing judges at all the big international dance competitions. They placed in the Top 5 at MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, they’ve starred on Disney’s “Shake It Up” and on several top Taiwanese variety shows. One Night Only!” 5:30 – 9pm.  Local rock photogs Maureen Gray and Janet Macoska are hosting a one night pop-up shop, blow-out, photo orgy, exhibition called Crawling From the Wreckage @ Grays Auctioneers. “Dark Matter, New work by Robert Thurmer.” Opening 6 – 10pm.  Renowned local artist Robert Thurmer wants to explore how we recognize art objects. He’ll do just that in Dark Matter, his new exhibit @ Arts Collinwood.  “Specifically: what are the markers for ‘art object’ that are generally recognized without specialized privileged information. Ohio Craft Museum  Due to popular demand, we’re offering a third session of this workshop!  Join Kathleen Dlabick, Ohio Designer Craftsmen’s graphic designer and photographer, as she presents tips and pointers for photographing your work. Learn how to create professional-looking shots for online marketing, sales and fair applications. You’ll discover what kind of equipment you need, how to light your shots and more. You’ll learn how to tackle photography challenges, and determine when it’s time to call a professional.  Kathleen Dlabick has been working as ODC’s graphic designer, photographer and webmaster since September of 2010. She has over 25 years of experience as a photographer, including 17 years at the Columbus Dispatch and eight years in the bio-medical field.   Before the workshop, visit the museum gallery to see the spring exhibition, Best of 2012.   This workshop is open to artists of all levels, and costs $12 for members of ODC, $15 for non-members.
