Cleveland Print Room (in Artcraft Building), 2550 Superior Ave, Suite 102,  216.401.5981  “Party Christens Photobooth.”  Open 5pm.  If you’ve been to a recent show at the Cleveland Print Room, you’ve already seen their photo booth right inside the front door, one of those old-fashioned things that were once a fixture at variety stores like the now defunct Woolworth’s chain.  But now they’re throwing a party to officially declare it open for business. There will be food, plus bring a dish to share for potluck. There will be dancing as Tania and Shouting Thomas Torment spin R&B, soul, garage, and rockabilly singles. There will be the opportunity to meet the Cleveland Print Room’s newly arrived artist-in-residence from Chile, Pablo Serra Marino, who is in town for a three-month stay.  And of course, there will be the opportunity to have your photo taken in the photo booth. Costumes and props will be on hand if you feel like getting crazy. For $3 you take home one of those four-photo strips. The event is free.

Fun Clay Event in Indiana!  Michiana Pottery Tour

September 27^th and 28^th.  Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday 11-4pm.

Many of the participating artists are local to Indiana and Michigan, however several guest artists from neighboring states will also be participating. This tour is a great opportunity to view a wide variety of work and discover new local artists.  There are eight different locations on the tour, and several locations feature more than one artist. Six of the locations are in or near Goshen, IN. The other two locations are just across the Michigan line in Constantine and Cassopolis. About one hours drive separates the two farthest locations.  Free parking is available at each location of the tour. There is no charge for attending the tour. Feel free to stop by and visit any location throughout the day. Operation

Along with basic programming, we will talk about features your kiln has that you may not even have known existed. Features that allow you to fuse glass, slow cool for interesting glaze effects, troubleshoot electrical problems and a lot more. Learn about the importance of pre-heating and

hold times. Learn how to properly load your kiln so every piece comes out perfect. We will also discuss the importance of venting and how to set up your kiln room. Also learn about Skutt's new KilnLink Monitoring System that allows you to check the status of your kiln from anywhere you have internet access.

Maintenance

We will go over a few basic maintenance tips that can add years of life to your kiln. Learn how to properly kiln wash your shelves, tighten the bands, and significantly increase the life of your elements.

Repair

You will be surprised how easy it is to make basic repairs on your kiln. Think about the money you can save. We will give hands on instruction on how to change a thermocouple, replace worn out elements and install new brick. We will also talk about how to properly diagnose kiln

problems and how to make changes to correct defects in your glaze.

Spaces, 2220 Superior Viaduct, Cleveland 216.621.2314 www.spacesgallery.org  “Tag Round 2, Big Reveal #2, A Psychologist and a Psychic Walk into a Gallery.”  Jess Hirsch and Cassie Thornton are working side-by-side in their separate "studios" built within the SPACES gallery, and switching back-and-forth over the course of four weeks to add, dissect, alter, and/or build on top of what the other artist creates. Join us for the second big reveal in TAG: Round 2 to see the progress the artists made in the previous week and gain special insight into how their artworks will evolve throughout the course of the project. Dr. Caroline A. Schaerfl, PhD. specializes in clinical psychology and will delve deep into the the decision-making process of Hirsch and Thornton to discuss how they relate to each other through the way they address their shared artworks. Medium/clairvoyant and President of A Village--Personal and Spiritual Development Center, Marianne Goldweber, will channel the energies of the artists and artworks to predict how TAG will develop into its final form.  The artists will be in attendance to discuss their work and answer questions from the audience.

View a selection of vernacular & found photography in Cleveland Print Room’s latest exhibition: Lost & Found: Vernacular & Found Photography. According to Wikipedia, vernacular photography is defined as “the creation of photographs, usually by amateur or unknown photographers both professional and amateur, who take everyday life and common things as subject.  Examples of vernacular photographs include travel and vacation photos, family snapshots, photos of friends, class portraits, identification photographs, and photo-booth images. Vernacular photographs are types of accidental art, in that they often are unintentionally artistic.”  Found photos come from places like  flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, and in the trash and have a mysterious air about them. Private collectors and found photo dealers from around the country will be showcasing select photos.  On Sat hear a panel discussion moderated by Barbara Tannenbaum, Curator of Photography at Cleveland Museum of Art, w/ a panel consisting of Robert Jackson from Seattle, Nigel Maister from Rochester, Stacy Waldman from Easthampton, Massachusetts, and Erin Waters from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

78^th Street Studios. 1300 West 78^th Street, Cleveland  “Third Fridays.”  5 pm.   A number of new exhibitions will be unveiled for the very first time. Perhaps the most anticipated (within the art community), is located in the second floor’s HEDGE Gallery.  Joe Ayala and John W. Carlson have been planning their two-man exhibition, It Figures, for months. Both artists are active members of the community – despite recently spending so many hours in their studios preparing for this show. Although the artists’ styles differ greatly, their work shares many common threads. These threads tie this exhibition together with harmony – even when they seem to pull you in completely different directions.  The show’s title refers to their common subject matter – the human figure. Carlson’s expressive paintings evoke raw emotion and psychological explorations. Ayala’s mesmerizing portraits go far beyond the boundaries of pure realism. His subjects radiate with intriguing personalities that encourage an active viewing experience. Both artists’ work contains symbolism for the viewer to decode. An active viewer can use these contextual clues to create their own interpretation of the works.  (Image Above)

Cleveland Public Theater, 6415 Detroit Ave., Cleve.  “Weapons of Mass Creation.” Cleveland’s Weapons of Mass Creation festival bills itself as “3 Days That Will Change Your Life.” And while that might be a tad overstated, it’s one of Cleveland’s most distinctive events, bringing together creative (mostly) young people from both northeast Ohio and out of town — musicians, artists, and entrepreneurs — to share their work, hang out, and exchange ideas and experiences.  Taking place at the Cleveland Public Theatre complex at Gordon Square, WMC — now in its fifth year — features speakers, panels, art displays, workshops, bands, and informal interactions over food and drink.  A three-day general admission ticket is $100. But you can also purchase individual tickets for a single day, for specific workshops, for the Friday night mixer with Cleveland bands-on-the-rise Mr. Gnome , Urbindex, These Knees, Smoke Noises, and the Commonwealth, plus the 2vs2 Break Battle, and for the Saturday night concert featuring Kevin Devine, and The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am Not Afraid To Die.

“Tremont Artwalk.” Openings 6– 9 pm.  Every 2nd Fri of the month.  Cleveland’s quintessential arts neighborhood boasts a lively gathering on the second Friday of every month in celebration of everything that makes Tremont so vibrant. In addition to the participating brick and mortar businesses, arts and crafts vendors can be expected to set up shop along the sidewalks during these warm summer months. For 21 years the neighborhood of Tremont has worked tirelessly with fellow businesses and artists to grow the ArtWalk into what it is today.
