“The Journey: A Retrospective Exhibition of the Art of Michelangelo Lovelace, Sr.”   Opening Reception: from 5-8pm.  The show will look back at Michelangelo’s career and include paintings, drawings, and sculpture.  will celebrate Michelangelo Lovelace Sr.’s 20+ year artistic career as well as his birthday. Michelangelo will speak at 6:30 pm about his life and art. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 12 noon to 4 pm.  A special attraction is planned during this exhibition. On Saturday, June 23, 2012 the AAWR will host A Dialogue with Michelangelo where Michelangelo will discuss his artistic process and take questions. The free event will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve is located at 1834 E 123rd Street in University Circle, right off Euclid Avenue and across from Lake View Cemetery. “Character Split @ Survival Kit Gallery.”  Opening Reception 5-11pm. Surreal images? Imaginary characters? Yes, please.  Soon to open at Survival Kit Gallery: Character Split — Works by Clarke Curtis and Tyler Zeleny.  The scoop: “Conjured through peculiar collages sourced from cut up computer-generated images and kid’s disposable party plates, and by surreal imagery drawn with unerring draftsmanship, the imagined characters created by Clarke Curtis (Austin, TX) and Tyler Zeleny differ only in their form and narrative.  “Personified through bold, black and white prints, and playful, multicolored combinations, both sets of characters convey human attributes and gestures that encourage the viewer to suppose hypothetical conversations or confrontations, the feelings in many of which are ironically heightened by each artists’ tendency toward combining human and animal parts…”  On view through 8/17.  1305 W. 80th Street #3c,Cleveland http://SurvivalKitGallery.com

“Ragnar Kjartansson: ‘Song’ video art installation @ The Underdog.” 7pm.  The Underdog is open and bumpin’. Every Tue through Tue 6/26 see Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson’s video art installation “Song.”  The video art installation is surreal, captivating and purely poetic. See it for yourself.
