José Carlos Teixeira creates research-based work involving video-essay, installation, performance and related photography.

Rotten Meat Gallery, 1814 East 40th St., Suite 4B, 216.469,4896, facebook.com/RottenMeatGalleryCLE  “Ripped and Raw.”  Opening 5pm.  Rotten Meat Gallery presents new work by local artist John W. Carlson.  Ripped and Raw combines traditional oils with alkalids, charcoal and graphite freely applied to large canvases.  Carlson creates ambiguous compositions by freely applying his materials while controlling the negative space. 

Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd, Cleveland, 216.421.7350, www.clevelandart.org “PechaKucha.”  5pm. This Friday’s MIX happy hour event at the Cleveland Museum of Art is a very special event.  The event is fittingly titled Muse – and is sure to inspire everyone in attendance.  This month the CMA has teamed up with the global speaker series PechaKucha to present lectures by speakers on their muses, passions and projects.  Each speaker will present 20 slides for 20 seconds each. On the bill: Tom Nix of Cleveland Whiskey, Brian Zimmerman of the Cleveland Metroparks and Cool Cleveland columnist and master storyteller Mansfield Frazier — plus others.  Advance tickets $8; $10 day of event.  Members are free.  Reservations are recommended.

ArtSpace-Cleveland, 1400 East 30th St., Cleveland, 216.421.4355, www.artspacecleveland.org  “ArtSPace Cleveland Trolley Tour.”  Noon-3pm.  $15 Adult, $10 Seniors, $5 Students.

Breakneck Gallery, 17020 Madison Ave, Lakewood, 216.767.5610  “The Rock Show.”  Opening 6-10pm. Artists and musicians should go together like PB&J, but don’t always seem to find each other. The idea behind “The Rock Show” at Breakneck Gallery was to bring the two worlds together in the local Cleveland scene. A large group of local artists were assigned a local band by a random lottery and asked to create a “gig style” poster for that band.
