Cleveland Print Room (in Artcraft Building), 2550 Superior Ave, Suite 102, Cleveland, 216.401.5981. “Garmonbozia.” Opening Reception 5-9PM. When a photo show is titled Garmonbozia, a word fabricated by director David Lynch in his film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me to refer to the negative energy generated by pain and suffering, you know you’re probably going to see work with an outré sensibility. The two photographers, Diana Hlywiak and Steve Syd, who work comprises the show of that name opening at the Cleveland Print Room, share a love for the director known for mysterious, inexplicable and dream-like work. Both members of the CPR, the two met nearly 25 years ago and began to work on projects together. So even though each is presenting very different work, there should be a sort of internal dialogue functioning between Hlywiak’s large-scale surrealistic digital photos with a retro feel and Syd’s more abstract, experimentally processed work, shot on film and printed on convention printing paper — a technique the Cleveland Print Room is teaching to a new generation.
