Heights Art Gallery, 2175 Lee Road  Cleveland Hts., 216.371.3457 www.heightsarts.org  “Emergent.”  Opening 6-9pm. Emergent 2015 highlights some of the finest "local produce" from area art institutions, with works by Joanne Arnett, Jerry Birchfield, Abbey Blake, Robert Coby, Matthew Gallagher, Clotilde Jiménez, Bridget McGuire, Joseph Minek, Nicholas Skowron, and Shawn Watrous. In addition a new spotlight gallery with abstract and figurative paintings by noted Cleveland artist and former Murray Hill gallery owner Brenda Fuchs will be unveiled as part of Heights Arts’ inaugural installation. 

Citizens Bridge, 1400 East 30^th Street 4^th Floor Suite 403, Cleve www.citizensbridge.com  “Inside the World of Bubbles.”  Opening 5-8pm. Lilley's photographs depict dynamic compositions with movement, light, and color, staging captivating microcosms, each designed to give the viewer a sense of awe, wonder, and a desire to experience the previously unseen life inside the world of bubbles.

Satellite Gallery 422 East 156^th Street, Cleveland.  Opening 5-9.  Satellite Gallery's orbit will coincide with the First Friday Walk All Over Waterloo! This will be our last voyage with this current crew of artstronauts, as we will close and make upgrades, and relaunch again with a new crew of artstronauts for the month of October! 

Maria Neil Art Project, 15813 Waterloo Rd. Cleveland, www.marianeilartproject.org, 216.481.7722  “Scott Goss.”  Opening 5 – 10pm.  Scott Goss, whose work will be displayed at Maria Neil Art Project in two formats — Incoherent Spaces, an exhibition of new works in glass, copper and enamel, and It Can Be Lonely In Here, a video and mixed media installation exploring subconscious place through experiential environments. Go check it out and get lost in thought and stunning visuals.  

Gallery One Sixty, 16008 Waterloo Road, Cleve.  “Jake Kelly.”  Opening 6PM.  Cleveland artist Jake Kelly first attracted notice with his flyers for concerts at venues like the Grog Shop and the Beachland, which started appearing around town 15 years ago.  His intricate line drawings, looking like single panels pulled from a comic strip, appeared to depict moments from a larger narrative that was titillatingly elusive. Sometimes it had something — usually tenuous — to do with the band in question but often it was its own thing, telling some unsettling, often macabre tale whose backstory you had to fill in yourself.

Article 15316 Waterloo Rd. Cleve  “From the Dust-Industrial Art show.”  Opening 5-10pm. This collective show honors that history and celebrates Cleveland’s revival with works from local artists and how they’ve come to embrace Cleveland “The Comeback City’s” industrial roots.  Featuring Artists: Christine Irene Cotter, Larry Fielder, Patrick Haggerty, Leila Khoury, George Kriner, Rachel Latina, Nancy L Miller, Jessica Miroglotta, Kristopher Petrenko, Louis Ross, Susan Ross, Jerry Schmidt, Melodie Thompson, Guerin Wolf, and NOC’s own Theresa Yondo!

Zygote Press, 1410 East 30^th St., Cleveland 216.621.2900  www.zygotepress.com   Show opens Sept 4^th.  Sat 9/26 @ 2-4PM: Artist Talk.  Patti Fields, a metalsmith, and Ray Juaire, have been the Zygote Press artists in residence for the last six months.  “They often transform a variety of media to create artwork that, at times, symbolizes their professional and personal relationship and explores issues of place and memory.” That show opens with a reception this week; it’s on display through Say 10/3, although the artists will talk at what’s billed as a closing reception Sat 9/26 @ 2-4PM.

Upcoming Workshop at Ohio Ceramics Supply    

  I would like to especially invite you to take a look at the many events we have scheduled for our grand re-opening, Sept. 25-27.  In addition to the Fong Choo and Janis Mars Wunderlich workshops on Friday and Saturday we have these presentations and exhibits:

• • Dave Gamble will represent Skutt Kilns and lead a discussion on kiln usage and maintenance.  His workshop will be held on Friday and again on Saturday.
• • Kevin Nguyen, owner and designer of Xiem Studio Tools, will demonstrate the many ways you can use Xiem tools (Friday and again on Saturday). Kevin will also have a booth at which you'll be able to use the tools.
• • Tracy Gamble will be on hand to discuss Amaco products
• • Standard Clay and Laguna Clay will each have a booth and are looking forward to answering questions about their clay bodies and dry materials

And we have added a special clay event for Sunday, Sept 27:"Join us as we welcome new ceramic professors: Peter Christian Johnson (Peter's website) at Kent State, and Seth Nagelberg (Seth's website) at Cleveland Institute of Art, to northern Ohio. We'll also have Eva Kwong (Eva's website) on hand - stop by and congratulate Eva as she takes the reigns of the ceramic program at the University of Akron. We'll provide hotdogs and drinks. 
Also on Sunday, from 10 am to 2 pm, we're challenging the alumni of the various ceramic programs in northern Ohio to a bowl-throwing contest. You'll need to assemble a team of 5 - each team member gets 10 minutes to throw as many bowls as they can in that time. We'll have three wheels and 4 1-hour time slots, so we have room for 12 teams. The winning team will earn a $300 gift certificate for their school, $200 for second place and $100 for third. Clay and tools wil be provided.  The bowls will be fired and we will work with local area elementary-high schools to glaze them for an Empty Bowls project this fall.  To register: email rzumpone @ ohioceramic.com with the name of your school and preferred time slot.
