Valley Arts Center, 155 Bell Street, Chagrin Falls, OH “Perspectives: The Art of Seth Chwast; Portraits of Seth Chwast at work by photographer Herbert Ascherman” Opening 6-8PM. “Perspectives exemplifies the efforts of one attentive artist to delve into the mind of another. In this case, Seth’s autism is infused within his paintings, allowing his internal visions to manifest in 34 external images. Paired with 34 black and white portrait studies selected from over 1,000 images taken throughout 2015, Perspectives is the outward manifestation of the inward process. Although a willing participant in the portrait process, Seth is photographed as much as a subject of an artist’s eye as he is the casual participant transiting his own inner world.”

Cleveland State University 1899 E 22nd, Cleveland, 216.687.2103, www.csuohio.edu/artgallery Forced Perspective: The Story of Artist Derek Hess-Movie Screening.” 6PM Rception 7 pm Film. A couple of years ago, filmmaker Nick Cavalier became intrigued by the work of Cleveland-based artist Derek Hess. He got the urge to know the story behind Hess’ tension-filled work, which first appeared on concert films and flyers and later in his fine art, with images that have become popular on T-shirts and tattoos. As he learned about the demons Hess overcame to become a successful artist, his film grew into an hour-and-a-half documentary feature. It was screened at numerous film festivals last year and it’s now ready for its official release. You can see it at Cleveland State’s Main Classroom Auditorium, with a reception at 6pm, the screening at 7pm and a discussion afterward with Hess and Cavalier. It’s part of CSU radio station WCSB 89.3FM’s 40thanniversary. forcedperspectivefilm.com wcsb.org/forced-perspective-the-story-of-artist-derek-hess/
