“8501 to 11400 (On Moving): MOCA’s last exhibition on Carnegie!” Opening Reception 7 – 9PM MOCA is moving from its current spot at 8501 Carnegie Ave. to its new digs at 11400 Euclid Ave. MOCA celebrates its last show at its current location w/ a show aptly titled “8501 to 11400 (On Moving).” About the show: “New commissioned drawings, photographs, performance and site-specific installation work by three regional artists—Corrie Slawson, Ben Kinsley and Brandon Juhasz—will explore the literal and philosophical implications of moving. “Duplicities.” Opening Reception 5-10pm. the exhibition is composed of sculptures and installations from artists Derek Gelvin and Jim Leach. Stylistically very different, the two artists manage to accent and enhance each other’s works. Gelvin focuses on issues in contemporary society — without forgetting the need of comedic relief. From Leach, you will see art that builds a story, as each work is born through an original narrative or scenario devised by Leach. “Linda Ding: Still Life.” Opening Reception 5:30-8pm. Artist talk at 7pm. Linda Ding, a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Art (2010), uses her installations to create and heighten the physical and emotional conditions amongst two people in social situations. In the context of interior spaces, abstraction and symbolic forms are used to refer to the human. To manipulate the social space, Ding draws from the notions of intimacy and privacy to examine how interaction is a response to physical and emotional closeness. About the Artist: Linda Ding, a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Art (2010), is currently working in Cincinnati, OH. She recently exhibited in Art in an Instant, curated by Julia Pressman, at the Thompson Gallery, The Cambridge School of Weston (MA) and in the Student Independent Exhibition, curated by Christa Donner, Dario Robleto, and Pascual Sisto, at the Reinberger Gallery (Cleveland, OH). ALSO: Lauren Yeager/ Scott Stibich: Familiar Machines Artists Talks begins at 6:15, Euclid Avenue Gallery The Collaboration of Lauren Yeager and Scott Stibich joins two recent Cleveland Institute of Art graduates (2009 and 2010 respectively) who will create sculptures that seek to mimic the perceptual experiences of extraordinary events such as sky diving, sensory deprivation and a solar eclipse. They will recreate these experiences by means of everyday objects with the goal that the materials themselves will disappear leaving only the sensory experience. about the artist | Scott Stibich Scott Stibich is a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Art (2010) and the current technical assistant for the sculpture department at The Cleveland Institute of Art. HIs work was chosen by jurors Gregory Amenoff, Chair of the Visual Arts Division of Columbia University's School of the Arts, and Paola Morsiani, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art, for the 4th and 5th iterations of the annual exhibition After the Pedestal at The Sculpture Center. Stibich has received the first place award from Cleveland Public Art in Bike Station, a public art competition (2009), and received the Bernice and David E. Davis '48 Scholarship in Sculpture from the Cleveland Institute of Art two consecutive years (2008, 2009). about the artist | Lauren Yeager. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art (2009), Lauren Yeager actively exhibits throughout Cleveland. Exhibitions in 2010 include Creatively Close at Forum Artspace, OUTERSPACE: The American Odyssey, part of Pop Up City, and Detour at SPACES. You are invited to celebrate the love you have for ceramics at the Screw Factory Studio of Kristen Cliffel this month! Kristen will be having a Valentine Glazing event on Wednesday February 8th at 6:00 p.m. We will be glazing bisqued heart ornaments while drinking whatever elixers you love best. The glaze, hearts and studio space will be provided as well as a few delectable items to gnosh on and sip... (I will make some cupcakes and bring a case or so of beer...) I would love for you to bring a bottle or can or thermos of something to share and/or a snack to share....think "devine,delicious,delovely..."
