Don’t just look at their finished pieces of art work — the real stuff lies in their sketchbooks. Sketchbooks are repositories for quick drawings, random thoughts and odd cartoons. It’s the place to brainstorm, to creatively solve problems. But they’re mostly private — until now. Lorain County Community College presents Radius: An Artist Sketchbook Project featuring the sketchbooks of a dozen Northeast Ohio artists, including Lorain native Bob Cutlip.

This Friday, Ursuline College presents The Winter Art Invitational featuring the University of Dayton International Crèche Collection. The exhibition features 13 regional artists and more than 50 crèches (Christmas nativity scenes). The University of Dayton’s Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute holds the largest collection of printed material on the Virgin Mary in the world – as well as nearly 3,000 crèches from around the world. The crèches range in styles and designs, reflecting the diverse cultures of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.
