Akron, 330.376.9185, www.akronartmuseum.org  “Intersections: Artists Master Line and Space.”Opening 7:30PM.  The Akron Art Museum’s new show Intersections: Artists Master Line and Space examines how sculpture and works on paper interact in the work of six artists who use non-traditional materials and processes: Mark Fox, Anne Lindberg, Nathalie Miebach, John Newman, Judy Pfaff and Ursula von Rydingsvard. Each of the artists explores in a different way the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional work.  Opening night will give visitors a chance to meet the artists and engage them in conversation and to create a 3D doodle while enjoying music provided by DJ Naeno. The show will be on view through 1/15/17.

All Ohio Contemporary Ceramics Competition and Show October 7-9, 2016

 With the support of the Ohio Arts Council, the Yan Sun Art Museum and sponsors along Ohio’s Appalachian Winding Road, the Appalachian Hills of Ohio Territory invites all Ohio ceramists ( includes anyone who was born in, lived in, worked in, attended school in or is submitting an Ohio- themed work to this competition ) to enter one piece only in the inauguration of a new biennial competition with a $2500.00 first prize, $1000.00 second prize, $500 third prize, and two $250.00 honorable mention awards. In addition, a $500 prize will be awarded to the piece voted most popular.  Entries must be created in 2015 or 2016. They may be functional or sculptural and fit upon a 20” by 20” pedestal top or hang on a wall. All works are to be delivered in person from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Friday, October 7th, to the Yan Sun Art Museum at 604 Main Street in Zanesville. All artists are invited to attend the First Friday Art Walk from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. that evening in in the District. To compete in the Show, please register by September 15th at register@ahoot.org. An entry fee of $15 is due with delivery of the work on October 7th for those registering by August 7th and an entry fee of $25 for later registration.  The judge is Christine Golden of Flagstaff, Arizona, winner of the first Zanesville Prize ($20,000).  All works will be offered for sale on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday with 30% of each sale to be retained as commission. Purchasers of works and ceramists may choose to take their unsold work with them any time after the free artist reception and awards ceremony at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday at Weasel  Boy Brewery until the close of Show at 5 P.M. on Sunday. The All Ohio Show will be presented this year and each even numbered year beyond this year. The international Zanesville Prize will be presented in 2017 and the ensuing odd numbered years.  The All Ohio Contemporary Ceramics Competition & Show is dedicated this inaugural year to celebrate 50 years of public funding for the arts through the Ohio Arts Council.

It features work by teachers from the school’s various departments, as they get to demonstrate their expertise in practice and not just in theory.  Featuring work by NOC’s own Seth Nagelberg.

For more than four decades, Herbert Ascherman Jr. has been a fixture in the photographic landscape of Cleveland. While best known for his portrait studio, Ascherman has also pursued other threads throughout his career: landscapes, nudes, and street photography—as well as portraiture. 

Harris-Stanton Gallery 1370 W. 9th Street, Cleveland  “Concepts, Toys and Collage: New Works by Mindy Tousley and Lisa Kenion.”   Opening 6-8:30. Both artists are long time Cleveland area artists and have been artistic peers and friends for years. The exhibition will feature new collage works and rarely seen “toys” by Mindy Tousley as well as new works by Lisa Kenion in bronze as well as a brand new body of two dimensional works.

Article Gallery 15316 Waterloo Rd., Cleve  “ALT POP.”   Opening 6-10PM.  Rachel Latina’s figurative painter/illustrator’s works are vivid, colorful and approachable but there’s a lot more going on there than what you see on the surface. She says she’s exploring femininity in the contest of culture, and she does so with a light enough hand that viewers can just enjoy the image as image or bring their own references to bear to decipher other messages in what she paints.
