“The Battle We Didn’t Choose: My Wife’s Fight with Breast Cancer.”’  Opening Reception 7-9pm. Akron native and photographer Angelo Merendino is back in town with a powerful photo exhibition. His wife, Jen, was diagnosed with breast cancer five months after they married. His photos capture the last year of her life and, in stunning detail, capture the realities of life with cancer. “Cain Park Arts Fest 2012.”  Featuring NOC’s own Andrea Leblond and Yumiko Goto.  Well, Cain Park Arts Fest is the place to be. With over 150 art exhibits and vendors there is plenty to see and to buy. This 3 day event is free Friday and $5 Saturday & Sunday.  What a variety! While the majority of the art is two-dimensional, there are also plenty of sculptures, jewelry, ceramics and much more. “Paul Sydorenko-Fort.”  Opening Reception: 7-10 PM.  "When I was young, there was a fort in the woods at the end of my street. All of the neighborhood kids knew about it, but no one knew who built it? Maybe it was left over from the older kids who had grown up and moved on to driving cars and dating? It had definitely seen better days, yet this ramshackle fort made of old scrap wood and plastic tarping was magical to us. Even with the soiled carpet flooring, cigarette butts, and beer cans; it was awesome. Maybe that's what made it awesome… it was an escape. It was adventure. It was the start of us trying to act like adults or trying to act cool. Becoming soldiers or looking at water damaged penthouse magazines that had sat through storms, winters, god knows what? It was there for at least ten years. And then one day, just as it magically arrived, it was gone. I still think about that fort today. I think about how cool it was to sit in that fort and just imagine… imagine that anything and everything was possible." Paul's latest solo exhibition, Fort, brings those memories back to life in an ambitious series of installation, mixed media and conceptual works. They’re helpless and in need of a lil’ love. “The Journey: A Retrospective Exhibition of the Art of Michelangelo Lovelace, Sr.”   Opening Reception: from 5-8pm.  The show will look back at Michelangelo’s career and include paintings, drawings, and sculpture.  will celebrate Michelangelo Lovelace Sr.’s 20+ year artistic career as well as his birthday. Michelangelo will speak at 6:30 pm about his life and art. “Weapons of Mass Creation Fest.” For years there has been talk about bringing a music festival to Northeast Ohio. Now such a notion is slowly taking hold in the grassroots Weapons of Mass Creation Festival (WMC Fest), which enters its third year Fri 6/8 – Sun 6/10 in the Gordon Square Arts District in Cleveland. However, music is just one component, and a smaller one at that.  The WMC Fest, the creation of Go Media co-owner Jeff Finley, is billed as the premier art, design and music event of the Midwest with 20 speakers, 20 designers and nearly 30 bands enlightening the anticipated 1,000 or so attendees. “Pedaling Art: A Celebration of Bicycle Art & Culture.” Opening Fri 5/18 @ 6 – 10pm.  Celebrate bicycle art & culture with Pedaling Art, a new exhibit opening @ Ohio City Bicycle Co-op. “Cleveland Asian Festival.” Sat 5/19 & Sun 5/20  You know that the Third Annual Cleveland Asian Festival will have awesome food. That’s what over 31,000 people enjoyed at last year’s Festival.  And you probably know to expect cool exhibits like martial arts demonstrations, games, competitions, free health screenings, merchant booths, artwork and live cultural performances.  This year, you won’t believe your eyes. Originating from Taipei, Taiwan, the California-based “Instant Noodles” dance crew will perform on the stage and show how they’ve been impressing judges at all the big international dance competitions. They placed in the Top 5 at MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, they’ve starred on Disney’s “Shake It Up” and on several top Taiwanese variety shows. “Drawn and Quartered 4.” Sat 5/19 @ 7pm.  Grab Cleveland’s top life drawing groups, throw them in a room, and pit them against each other for your entertainment.  That’s “Drawn and Quartered,” now in its fourth year.
