Job Opportunity!!!

The Beck Center is looking for a ceramic artist with experience working with children (ages 6 to 12) to teach two, 3 week sessions this summer.

The Camps are from June 16^th to July 3^rd for the first, with the times being 9:30 to 12:00pm  and the second runs from July 28 to August 15^thand goes from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. The last Fridays of each camp ends with an art show in the Daniels Lounge of the Beck Center.  The  ceramic artist will be working with another visual artist who will work with the students using other visual arts materials. There will be two rooms with, one hour sessions, a half hour snack break, and then the classes switch.  Anyone interested in working for the Beck Center and looking for more information, contact Susan Gallagher at: sgallagher@beckcenter.org.  and  please send some images of your personal work and a resume.

The events will link the oldest and newest structures in University Circle. The Cozad estate will host four pieces (30-45 minutes each), while MOCA will be become a listening environment. The four works are designed specifically to capturing the shifting atmosphere throughout the evening.

PEN PALS is an exhibition of collaborative drawings by Cleveland's Rachel Strongoli & Josh Usmani and Sweden's Daniel Andersson-Boe (Semio). Abstract art explores the relationships of form, color and line to create a composition. This form of art tends to move away from realistic art that represents the world with easily recognizable images. This departure from traditional representation can be slight, partial, or complete.

Lakeland Community College 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, OH 44094, 440.525.7029 “By Women, Of Women, About Women.” Awards Ceremony Sun 3/23 @ 2pm (Artist Reception @ 3:30pm)  In honor of Women’s History Month, the gallery at Lakeland Community College once again presents their seventh annual From WOMAN show – “created by women, of women and about women.”  This year’s exhibition features nearly 40 local and regional female artists working with an eclectic array of media – including acrylic, oil, watercolor, encaustic wax paintings, drawings, textiles, jewelry, sculpture (bronze, enamel and ceramic), mixed media, assemblage and digital art.  Later in the month the gallery will host both an artist reception and the Annual Woman of Achievement Awards Ceremony.  The awards ceremony begin in the Performing Arts Center at 2pm, and the reception will follow at 5pm.  Come early to see all the wonderful artwork (it’s a lot to take in at once), and then come back later in the month to meet these amazing women!

Modern technology has changed a lot – this is especially true in photography. Early cameras required much longer exposure times. As a consequence, sitters had to remain extremely still for extended periods of time. The trademark “ghost-like” stares from 19^th Century subjects are the result of these long exposures.  The most difficult subjects in early portrait photography were young children. This weekend, the Cleveland Print Room invites a select group of female photographers to re-examine one of the early photographers’ “secret” techniques – the “Hidden Mother.”  Hidden Mother: Reimagined features the work of Laura Ruth Bidwell, Darrelle Anne Centuori, Jane Critchlow, Hadley K Conner, Joan Deveney, Helen Harry, Diana Hlywiak, Jocelynn Hunter, Honey Lazar, Liz Maugans, Heather Murray, Nancy McEntee, Barbara Merritt, Michelle Marie Murphy, Molly Pamela, Cynthia Penter, Deborah Pinter, Penny Rakoff, Toni Starinsk and Shari Wilkins.

River Gallery is thrilled to announce the first exhibit  of our 2014 season.  (Image ABove).  Jeff Yost has recently relocated to Columbus, Ohio.  Jeff returns to River Gallery with a new collection of landscape paintings.  These evocative paintings, capture  landscapes in a moment of dusk or twilight, as well as distances that are cloaked in fog and half-light.  The rural and natural world is mysteriously rendered and is both foreign, yet intimately familiar.  Terry Klausman returns after last year's wonderful exhibit with Nina Huryn.  For this exhibit, Terry has tapped into his skills as a welder by trade,  and  has created a series of steel sculptures.  Some sculptures are windswept and graceful,  appearing to float; others stand tall, like skyscrapers or gazelles.  These sculptures  are very different from Terry's found object assemblages, but possess his keen sense of composition and fine approach to craftsmanship.

Transformer Station 1460 W.29^th Street, Cleveland, www.transformerstation.org  “Northern Ohio Art Dealers Association.” For the second consecutive year, the Transformer Station hosts the Northern Ohio Art Dealers Associaion’s ARTExpo. This collaborative exhibition of local art dealers is the largest of its kind in the region. ARTExpo 2014 kicks off with an Opening Night Preview VIP Party hosted by LUXE Kitchen and Lounge on Friday evening.  Saturday’s events include an open house at the Intermuseum Conservatory Association and a “Walk and Talk” with renowned art historian and author Dr. Henry Adams. Dr. Adams will discuss selected works from each booth. Maria Neil Art Project, 15813 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland.  “Aftermath” of Memory-Work By Hilary Gent.”  Opening 5pm. Aftermath is Gent’s latest body of work. The series is based on the destruction of a 2011 fire that burned a 20,000 square foot industrial building just feet from her studio and gallery at 78^th Street Studio.  The progression of the work examines the abstraction of memory through time. This progression towards abstraction gives the overall series a psychological aspect that makes the work even more interesting than the beautiful imagery itself. Additional gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays Noon-5pm and by appointment.

Gallery One Sixty, 16008 Waterloo Road, Cleveland “See No Evil.”  Opening 6pm.  Gallery One Sixty continues to present young, relevant artists on Waterloo. See No Evil is collection of recent mixed media works by Fournier – whose band Nights is planning their second tour of Japan. These new works mark a very distinctive shift from her previous work. Moving away from her innocent, figurative work, her latest mixed media works are complete abstractions. The art has a meditative tone and a sophisticated quality. Shaker Historical Society.  16740 South Park Blvd.  Shaker Heights.   “Lori Kella-Artificial Worlds.”  Opening 6-8pm. Lori Kella’s photographs depict both grand landscapes and detailed narratives. The works often intersect, as they are both metaphors for uncertainty. They present increasingly unreal elements that create a tension for the viewer. Her images offer an enticing – or sometimes bleak – reality and an obvious incongruence leaving you wondering just how real, or unreal, these worlds may be. Through photographing room-sized dioramas and models based on maps, photographs, and satellite images, Lori investigates the changing landscape and its photographic representation. Her work explores the beauty and seduction of remote environments while acknowledging that these near mythical views are both fragile and transitory, and often unobtainable. 

Trinity Cathedral 2230 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115 “Gadi Zamir- Grain, Stain & Imagination”  Opening 6-9pm. Reflections, held at the gallery at Trinity Cathedral, is an exhibition of his unique, personal artwork.  His work is unlike anything else you’ll see in town.  Zamir uses traditional and nontraditional techniques to create his distinctive works on found wood.  Zamir’s compositions are influenced by each piece of wood’s unique characteristics. He uses woodburning techniques, dyes, oils and more to manipulate the surface into complex, layered imagery. Reflections includes a number of large works selected around the theme of Lent – specifically repentance.
