“Paintings by Hilary Aurand, Mosaics by (NOC's) Mark Yasenchack.” Opening Reception: 3-7pm.  This is the debut of Hilary Aurand's urban landscape paintings at River Gallery. These bold, sometimes surreal , sometimes gritty, landscapes capture our city's industrial beauty and the desolate nature of its forgotten urban wastelands.  Aurand's details are innately familiar; from the industrial cast-offs and machinery to the quality of light that feels like our bright northern Ohio summers or the long shadowed midwestern winters.  She renders these details with intimate brushstrokes and sophisticated composition that reveal a grace to the landscape of our city.  While (NOC”S own) Mark Yasenchack has exhibited his ceramic work at River Gallery before this is his first time exhibiting large format mosaics. This work features found stone, glass and metal fragments and bits that become mosaic tesserae.  These are combined with tiles made with his textured clay technique.  The often gothic imagery in his work hints at ancient necropoli, tribal ritual sites, and obscured religious iconography found in ruined architecture. “Ingenuity 2012: A Renaissance in Motion.”  NOC”s own Elizabeth Emery has an  installation at Dock 32 (it's the one with golden tires).  She will be there doing an activity/performance of sorts on Friday from 7-10pm & saturday from noon - 7pm.  The installation is called: Making Money the Harder Way. repare to once again create, participate, demonstrate and innovate as Ingenuity, the Cleveland Festival of Art & Technology, materializes in yet another location Fri 9/14 through Sun 9/16 at docks 32 and 30 north of Cleveland Browns Stadium and the Great Lakes Science Center on the lakefront.  Showcasing an area rarely open to the public, the festival offers a preview of the lakefront development the city announced earlier this year. Exhibits, performances, installations and lectures will occupy more than 120,000 square feet in two warehouses as well as outdoor lakefront space.  Part of Ingenuity’s intention is to change locations, thus energizing often-ignored areas and structures while inspiring creativity at the intersection of arts, science and technology. The festival blurs the lines between art and the city and steps through the boundaries separating artists and innovators from their audience. Modeling the Human Head

Specific Requirements:

Education: 

• • High School Diploma or GED; College Level course in visual art or a BFA in visual art preferred.

Job Description: 

• • Under the direction of the Cleveland Bureau of Cultural Arts {BCA} Manager, the Recreation I Art instructor teaches a variety of visual art classes in ceramics and arts & crafts to a wide range of populations, including senior, adults, youth/teens, special need groups, school and home school programs, and family classes. This is a roving position, which requires the instructor to travel to different city facilities during the course of the week. The Recreation I Art instructor will prepare his/her students for a wide variety of community based art shows that take place throughout the year. The Recreation I Art instructor is at times required to drive a city van to take students to special events that occur during the year.

Experience: 

• • The candidate should have at least two years of experience teaching ceramics and arts & craft classes in a community based setting. Candidate must enjoy teaching a wide variety of patrons found in a culturally diverse urban setting. The ability to teach painting, drawing, airbrush and printmaking is also helpful.

Rate of Pay: 

• • This position starts at $10.00/hr. Permanent part-time art instructors work can work up to 25 hours per week.

Work Hours: 

• • The twenty-five hours will be scheduled during peak operational hours
