9.27+28 Next Weekend! Fun Clay Event in Indiana! Michiana Pottery Tour! September 27th and 28th. Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday 11-4pm.
Many of the participating artists are local to Indiana and Michigan, however several guest artists from neighboring states will also be participating. This tour is a great opportunity to view a wide variety of work and discover new local artists. There are eight different locations on the tour, and several locations feature more than one artist. Six of the locations are in or near Goshen, IN. The other two locations are just across the Michigan line in Constantine and Cassopolis. About one hours drive separates the two farthest locations. Free parking is available at each location of the tour. There is no charge for attending the tour. Feel free to stop by and visit any location throughout the day. If you wish to purchase pottery credit cards, cash, and checks will be accepted at each location as payment. Workshop Topics:
Operation
Along with basic programming, we will talk about features your kiln has that you may not even have known existed. Features that allow you to fuse glass, slow cool for interesting glaze effects, troubleshoot electrical problems and a lot more. Learn about the importance of pre-heating and
hold times. Learn how to properly load your kiln so every piece comes out perfect. We will also discuss the importance of venting and how to set up your kiln room. Also learn about Skutt's new KilnLink Monitoring System that allows you to check the status of your kiln from anywhere you have internet access.
Maintenance
We will go over a few basic maintenance tips that can add years of life to your kiln. Learn how to properly kiln wash your shelves, tighten the bands, and significantly increase the life of your elements.
Repair
You will be surprised how easy it is to make basic repairs on your kiln. Think about the money you can save. We will give hands on instruction on how to change a thermocouple, replace worn out elements and install new brick. We will also talk about how to properly diagnose kiln
problems and how to make changes to correct defects in your glaze.
