Art House, 3119 Denison Ave., CLE 216.398.8556, www.arthouseinc.orgCommunity Culture Night.”  Opening7-8:30 PM.  Urban artist Martinez E-B left the confines of his native inner city Cleveland for the larger canvas of Chicago where he was artist in residence at the Chicago Artists Coalition and received his MA in interdisciplinary arts from Columba College (He has an BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art). His books, theater pieces and visual art works reflect his city-based sensibility, drawing from street art and refracting that influence through his educated artistic practice.  E-B will be back in town for Community Culture Night at Art House where he’ll talk about his work and artistic practice and participate in a Q&A. It’s also a chance to see the work Art House and some of its teaching artists are doing. Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, 6300 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.  “Interdependent:  New Work by Jon Schwarz and Angela Biederman.”  Opening 5:30-9pm. A collaborative exhibition of ceramic and mixed media sculptures with works that address dual yet interdependent concepts such as stability, fragility, structure, deterioration, isolation and interconnectedness. Works also explore notions of precarious yet sustained balance, the effects of interaction and contact, tension, fusion and slow transformation. Inspired by human relationships and the landscape, works also resemble how independent entities rely on, affect, balance, uphold, and define one another through figurative, organic and industrial elements.

Spaces, 2900 Detroit Ave, CLE 216.621.2314 www.spacesgallery.org  “Community Spaces.”  Opening reception 4 pm - 6 pm.  CommunitySPACES showcases the great work our local culture, education, and health institutions are doing throughout Northeast Ohio! Participating organizations include Center for Arts-Inspired Learning, Beck Center for the Arts, Rainey Institute, BAYarts, Shooting without Bullets, Art Therapy Studio, FrontLine Service, and the SPACES/Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center art collaboration made possible through the NoVo Foundation.  FREE + open to the public through 4/15.

Briggs, Jason (b. 1972, Wausau, WI, lives in The Black Hills, SD).  After getting his MFA degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jason served three years as artist in residence at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, TN. From 1999-2012 he ran the Ceramics department for Belmont University in Nashville, learning first-hand what it means to be adjunct labor.   Jason and his wife maintain a studio, a 2 kids and a few bad habits.  Recently, Jason showed work in the Illustrative Festival at the Direktorenhaus Museum in Berlin, and had work traveling the US in “InCiteful Clay”— a Judith Schwartz-curated exhibition.
