Eagle Collection This exhibit features 85 objects by 50 artists – ceramics, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry and works on paper – acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.   Some of the artists included are:  Olga deAmaral, Robert Arneson, Viola Frey, Sam Maloof, Richard Marquis, Albert Paley, Ken Price, Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner…to just name a few.  The Eagle Collection highlights important studio objects made from the mid- 1960s to the 2000s with a focus on the 1960s – 80s, the collection’s great strength.

The exhibition consists of works from the collections of AAWR and ARTneo, emphasizing Butnik's ability to capture the feeling of the landscape throughout his career in a variety of styles. From his early landscapes painted during World War II, to his sketches from his European travels and his large abstract canvases, Butnik referenced both physical journeys as well as psychological and transcendental explorations. Samuel Butnik's work was, in his own words, a “realization of new experiences.”

Heights Art Gallery, 2175 Lee Road  Cleveland Hts., 216.371.3457 www.heightsarts.org  When the Heights Bicycle Coalition contacted Heights Arts former executive director Peggy Spaeth about leading a summer bicycle ride—based on public art tours found in cities such as Chicago and San Francisco—her response was an enthusiastic “YES.” Instead of talking and riding at the same time, however, the initial idea has evolved into a dynamic duo of events: an illustrated public art talk at Heights Arts’ newly renovated gallery on Thursday, August 20 at 7 p.m. and a separate bicycle tour on Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. The hour-long illustrated talk on August 20 will also highlight the four temporary art projects that are no longer on view. Both events are free and open to the public. Because seating is limited in the gallery, please RSVP for the talk by calling 216-371-3457. The bike tour will meet at the mini-park adjacent to the Heights Arts gallery, 2175 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights. Helmets are mandatory. A rain date has been set for Sunday, August 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Curated by Craig R. Chojnicki & Lisa Miralia, this guided evening of progressive performance includes work by poets, musicians, performance artists and audio/visual artists, all incorporating various kinds of media.  This event is free + open to the public, and is organized by the SPACES programming committee.

Destruction of Form isn’t about new or found photography — it’s about deconstructing one piece of art and creating another. This exhibition & collaboration by Shari Wilkins and American Emotionalist artist  John W. Carlson, brought to you by the Cleveland Print Room, challenges viewers’ perceptions by altering the photographers’ original intent.  “We’ve altered the original photograph’s premise,” said Carlson. “It may be presumptuous of me to know the purpose of the photo, but when the premise of the photo is destroyed it becomes an entirely new piece of art. A lot of this is about perception.”

Opening at e11even two gallery at 78^th!  “Cleveland Artists Lonely art Club Show.” We will premiere a huge collaboration piece by 33 local artists celebrating The Beatles and their Sgt. Pepper era. The final piece is enormous in size and an absolute visual treat. On top of the main attraction each participating artist created a second piece inspired by a different track off of the Sgt. Pepper album. Another reason to come down will be to see the grand opening of our new expansion gallery. E11even 2 just became that much bigger! Beatles and art fans alike, open your calendars for July 17 and come join the fun!!!

Cleveland-based photographer Brandon Juhasz takes on the online world’s re-contextualization of photography and real life in IRL, opening at the Maria Neil Art Project on Waterloo. IRL is described as a reflection of how images are used and shared. Juhasz combines stock photos, camera phone shots, Internet pictures and manipulations to create a new reality.  (image above)
