Disco Dada Dreamscape: The 35th Dimension is SPACES’ 35th annual benefit and art auction – a unique experience that combines art, costumes and music. Every year, SPACES has a strange, fun theme and this year is no exception. Last year’s theme, Polkapocalypse, combined Polka music with a zombie apocalypse; the year before that, Pop Royalty was a bright, colorful celebration of everything “Pop.” These annual parties always take place around Halloween, allowing guests an extra opportunity to dress up in costume. The Dreamscape Party begins at 8pm with three auctions, a cash bar, finger foods, live music and dancing until 1am. The Disco Dada Dance party kicks off at 10pm with themed music, a cash bar and SPACES’ 12×12 auction – where all art is $75 and no larger than 12”x12”.  Tickets to the 7pm VIP Preview Party are $135 ($100 tax deductible), tickets to the Dreamscape Party at 8pm are $45 ($35 tax deductible) and tickets to the Disco Dada Dance party at 10pm are $10 ($8 tax deductible).  A la carte Buy-It-Now Auction Option is available for $45 (100% tax deductible) and a la carte auction numbers are available for $10 (100% tax deductible).

Now in its third incarnation, the Gallery at Lakeland’s Skull and Skeleton in Art III: Folk Art to Pop Culture is an art exhibition celebrating art and the culture of Mexico.  What began as 18 artists in 2009 and expanded to 55 artists in 2011, now features 64 local, regional and national artists and boasts over 300 works!

River Gallery,19046 Old Detroit Road, Rocky River 44116 440 331-8406, www.rivergalleryarts.com “Autumn Exhibit.”  Opening 3-7pm.   Impressive new collections by three Cleveland artists.   (NOC’s own) Yumiko Goto’s ceramic sculpture are other-worldly vessels and forms that hint at aquatic and alien creatures and landscapes.  Brent Marshall’s bird, branch and flower sculptures of glass and metal transform the material to reveal the hidden beauty and soul of the natural world surrounding us.  Steve Ziebarth paintings are stark and modern, yet suggest a magical dimension to the familiar landscapes we see and walk through everyday.

Carlson.  Ripped and Raw combines traditional oils with alkalids, charcoal and graphite freely applied to large canvases.  Carlson creates ambiguous compositions by freely applying his materials while controlling the negative space.

This Friday’s MIX happy hour event at the Cleveland Museum of Art is a very special event.  The event is fittingly titled Muse – and is sure to inspire everyone in attendance.  This month the CMA has teamed up with the global speaker series PechaKucha to present lectures by speakers on their muses, passions and projects.  Each speaker will present 20 slides for 20 seconds each. On the bill: Tom Nix of Cleveland Whiskey, Brian Zimmerman of the Cleveland Metroparks and Cool Cleveland columnist and master storyteller Mansfield Frazier — plus others.  Advance tickets $8; $10 day of event.  Members are free.  Reservations are recommended.

Breakneck Gallery, 17020 Madison Ave, Lakewood, 216.767.5610  “The Rock Show.”  Opening 6-10pm. Artists and musicians should go together like PB&J, but don’t always seem to find each other. The idea behind “The Rock Show” at Breakneck Gallery was to bring the two worlds together in the local Cleveland scene. A large group of local artists were assigned a local band by a random lottery and asked to create a “gig style” poster for that band.
