Cleveland’s IngenuityFest, the city’s annual celebration of art and technology, has become the biggest, most must-see event of the year. And this year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.  This year’s Fest will be held at the same warehouse docks as last year, behind Cleveland Browns Stadium, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Great Lakes Science Center.  However, the venue will be arranged a little differently than last year, and will feature all-new content.  This year’s theme is clouds. Organizers explain: “Head in the clouds.  Cloudy thinking.  Cloud computing.  We have looked to the clouds for centuries to dream and seek new heights.  Today we look toward the clouds as a space to store the information of our lives; as a place to live and work.  We also look with hope and fear seeing blue skies and storms in our past, present, and future.

Tremont Arts Fest.  Lincoln Park, 2391 W. 11^th Street, Tremont.  11-6 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.   Featuring NOC’s own Bette Drake, Ikuko Miklowski and Clematis Graham! This weekend’s annual Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival invites visitors to explore art, dance, music, performances, great food and much more!  Musical acts include Greek, Folk, Latin, Reggae and religious performers.  Dance performances include belly dancers, ballet, Puerto Rican and sword dancers.  Established local artists Dante Rodriguez and Hector Castellanos will be doing chalk drawings.  The event will also feature a local farmer’s market and a dozens of local artists and food vendors.

BuckBuck Gallery, 3910 Lorain Ave., Cleveland  Opening 6pm. Ohio City’s BUCKBUCK Gallery presents Gross Adaptations - the latest exhibition by Beth and Alex Kelly, owners of Downtown’s Proximity Gallery.  Both are graduates of Cleveland Institute of Art.  The evolution of both artists’ work is directly correlated to their experimentation of materials and subject matter.  The work is as similar as it is different – as complementary as it is contrasting.

Ginley presents her latest body of work – Factory Flowers of the Rustbelt Garden – at Studio 2091 Mothersbaugh-Roos in Cuyahoga Falls.  Ginley uses found objects and paper assemblages to create imagery of flower-dominated landscapes.  This body of work comments on cyborgian mutation, genetic alteration of botanical growth and emergence in the face of economic and ecological disaster of hope and beauty. The artist will be present for the opening reception.

This Saturday, Breakneck Gallery presents its latest themed, group exhibition – Distorted Portraits.  The show puts a contemporary twist on one of the oldest (and at one time “higher”) forms of art. Ceramics Studio Available!

A pottery studio in Beachwood, Ohio, Commerce Park, has available studio space and/or opportunities to take classes. Note that table space is shared, but there is individual storage. There is also a gas kiln that is presently going unused. It may be available to a studio mate who has expertise in its use and willingness to pay for insurance. It may also be available for sale to an interested party. Studio rent and/or class fees are very reasonable. Spaces, 2220 Superior Viaduct, Cleveland 216.621.2314 www.spacesgallery.org   “Invasive Plants Find New Uses.” Opening 6pm.  Reception celebrates the latest installations from Mimi Kato and Brandon Juhasz.   Brandon Juhasz’s exhibition Paradise. Pair a dice. is an installation of sculpted photographs.  Juhasz creates an enveloping, interactive environment containing strange 3D objects created by folding, wrapping and rolling printed images he finds on the internet.  Visitors are invited to navigate through the sculptures and take photos.  The photos can then be uploaded to a website intended to collect the many different interpretations of the project in hopes of creating a collective “idea” of the site for people who don’t see it in person.  At a to-be-determined date during the exhibition’s run, Juhasz will hold a workshop leading participants through his process of sculpting printed images. Mimi Kato is a Cleveland-based artist originally from Nara, Japan.  For her exhibition, she has partnered with the Cleveland Metroparks as one of SPACES’ World Artist Program (SWAP) participants.  Her current work deals with invasive plants in our region.  She will be creating installations at both SPACES and the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks using these invasive plants – specifically glossy buckthorn.

Featuring NOC’s Own Elizabeth Emery (Image Above)  This Saturday, Cleveland’s Museum of Contemporary Art throws an eclectic party to celebrate both the return of the area’s college students as well as its newest exhibition Everything All at Once, featuring four Cleveland-based artists.  Sound Your Engine will feature contemporary art, experimental music performances and custom car culture.  Starting at 1pm, Toby’s Plaza outside MOCA will be filled with some of the region’s finest custom vehicles – from homemade Monster Trucks to custom, hand-built motorcycles.  From 5-9pm, innovative sound artists and electronic musicians will conduct improvisational performances inside and outside the museum.   At 7pm, MOCA will hold a reception and artist talk for Everything All at Once featuring curator Liz Maugans and the four participating local artists — Jeffry Chiplis, Dana Depew, Elizabeth Emery and Jennifer Omaitz.  All four artists re-contextualize and “upcycle” found objects – creating completely new, compelling objects that are simultaneously familiar and new.

Lake Affect Studios.  1615 East 25^th Street. Cleveland. “Lake Affect Studios’ Grand Opening and Art & Music Festival.”  Open 2-10pm. Grand Opening! With activities starting at 2pm, Lake Affect Arts & Music Festival attendees can expect to partake in such highlights as: resident artists exhibiting their talents, showing their work, and selling their goods; 25 and more other local artists, vendors; and of course music.  Held at their studio on E. 25th, this fun and interesting festival is the perfect way to have Lake Affect open their doors. Music and standup comedy from Chris Hegedus, Mike Farrell, Mary Santora and Bill Squire of WMMS are just the beginning at this 18 and over festival. Tickets are $10 or $12 at the door.

World-renowned contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems visits the Cleveland Museum of Art this Sunday afternoon for a lecture in the CMA’s Gartner Auditorium on her career-spanning, current exhibition.  Weem’s retrospective encompasses 30 years of exploration of issues concerning race, class and gender using photography and video installations.  Her work seeks to better understand the present by studying history as well as our collective and individual identity.  This is Weem’s second lecture at the Museum.  She first came to help open the museum’s east wing gallery in 2009.  Her retrospective, Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video, is on view 6/30 – 9/29.  Tickets are $15 for non-members, $10 for members.  Students are free with valid ID.  Purchase tickets online or by calling the Ticket Center at (216) 421-7350.
