Note!!! Venue Change!  Lynne Lofton’s House, Next NOC Event will be Saturday July 14th and will be a lecture about Collecting Ceramics by Patrick Doust and Richard North. 6-9pm. The event will start with a potluck from 6-7pm, please bring a dish to share and a beverage of your choosing.  At 7 pm Patrick Doust and Richard North will be presenting “The Collectors Next Door” a lecture about collecting ceramic artwork.  They are true collectors of all things clay and more.  Their incredible home in Columbus is abundant with Art.   “Do you want to create a personal art collection? Join Columbus, Ohio-based collectors Patrick Doust and Richard North for a humorous and insightful discussion about their thirty-year journey acquiring fine sculptural and functional ceramics. Cleveland Public Library, 325 Superior Ave. E, CLE  “Common Energy.”  Opening 12-3 pm. This summer brings the work of Cleveland artist and NOC’s own Lauren Herzak-Bauman to one of downtown’s most magical public spaces. Common Energy provides the Eastman Reading Garden and the downtown Cleveland community with a message of positivity, inclusivity, and love. Based on Tibetan prayer wheels, interacting with Common Energy simply requires the act of spinning the wheels in order to send positive messages out to the world. (Image Above)

Museum of Contemporary Art, 11400 Euclid Ave., CLE 216.421.8671, www.mocacleveland.org  “It Occurs To Me That I Am America: New Stories and Art.”  6:30pm. The anthology, It Occurs To Me That I Am America: New Stories and Art, is a compilation of short stories and artworks by noted authors and artists such as Alice Walker, Neil Gaiman, Mary Higgins Clark, Eric Fischl and Joyce Carol Oates. Published in January, on the one-year anniversary of the Trump inaugural and the Women’s March, it’s a response to that with the contributors sharing their ideas of a “fair, free and compassionate democracy,” at odds with what Trump is projecting.  Editor Jonathan Santlofer will be at MOCA Cleveland to moderate a conversation with author Angela Flournoy and Cleveland-born artist Susan Crile, in an event presented in collaboration with the ACLU.  There’s a reception at 6:30pm, followed by the talk at 7pm and a book signing following the talk.

Fred Gearhart Home and Studio, 1609 Rydalmount Rd., Cleveland Hts.,  “Open Studio and Sculpture Garden.”  Both Days 1-7pm. You’ve probably seen sculptor Fred Gearhart’s work around town at places such as the Hartshorn Gallery in Tremont where his stone works adorn the back patio. That work also adorns his backyard in Cleveland Heights, where the pieces — in stone, metal and wood, both figurative and abstract — are scattered within the beautifully landscaped area.  For 11 years now, he has opened his yard and the garage that serves as his workshop to visitors for his annual open house. You’ll find more than 150 sculptures of all sizes set among the plants and walkways. They’re all for sale, and most are priced affordable. He’ll be glad show you his studio and talk with you about how he creates the pieces and the issues involved in each of the materials he works in.  (Image Above)

Akron, 330.376.9185, “Artists Talk.”  6:15-8pm.  The Akron Art Museum is committed to displaying work by artists currently working in its own regional backyard — both established artists and promising up-and-comers. Dragana Crnjak, Andrea Joki and Matthew Kolodziej, whose work is featured in the current show Frameworks, are in the latter category, while Jerry Birchfield, whose solo show Asleep in the Dust is also on display is in the former. All four of these artists will be in the galleries to talk briefly about their work and hang out to answer questions and have conversations afterwards.
