Erie Art Museum 411 State STreet, Erie, Pa 16501.  (NOC's Own)   "Kristen Cliffel:  Stories We Tell."  Opening 7-10 pm.  Ceramic sculptor Kristen Cliffel’s whimsical works explore “Domestic Mythologies.” She is fascinated by the complex relationships we develop with one another and our sense of “home” as we grow up in modern America. Facing ever-changing roles as daughter, sister, wife and mother, she creates sculptures that reference what we find comforting, familiar and desirable, while questioning the presumption of “happily ever after” and beyond.  (Image Above)

7019 Fullerton Ave.  “Rooms to Let.”  Opens at 5 pm. Rooms to Let: Cleveland returns to the Slavic Village neighborhood on Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th, 2015. Over 40 artists are creating a temporary art exhibition using vacant homes as their medium. The event, free and open to the public, will also include a neighborhood block party with live music, hands-on art activities and local food purveyors. Heights Arts would like to notify you about an exhibition opportunity at Heights Arts -  At Table: Cleveland Culinaria. This exhibition will pair groups of artists in a variety of disciplines with some of Cleveland’s most inspired culinary folks to design and create innovative tablescapes and surrounding environment that address the art of food and community. Heights Art Gallery, 2175 Lee Road  Cleveland Hts., 216.371.3457 www.heightsarts.org “Syncope.” Opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m.  In medicine, the noun syncope (SINGkuhpee) refers to a fleeting loss of consciousness; in phonetics, it's when sounds or letters are not pronounced aloud. Heights Arts' new exhibition, titled Syncope, pairs photographs by Rachel Beamer with drawings by Achala Wali that suggest the moments between loss and what remains.  Rachel Beamer's color imagery explores themes of space, surface and memory through compositions that hint at elements not present. Achala Wali's abstract drawings in pencil, pen-and-ink, brush, and sometimes pastel and acrylics, bring forth buried thoughts and memories of landscapes from her Indian childhood. Be sure to mark your calendar for this lush exhibition of two Cleveland artists!
