First of all, no one sends me info about this before the postings???? Help a brother out! “CIA Faculty Show.” View new, original, innovative work from CIA professors at the Cleveland Institute of Art 2011 Faculty Exhibition, opening Thu 9/1. On view through Sat 10/8. The scoop: “Students at The Cleveland Institute of Art learn from nearly 50 full-time and 40 adjunct faculty, all professional artists, designers, and scholars. Ninety percent of CIA’s ranked faculty members hold a PhD or the terminal degree in their field (usually an MFA). With approximately 500 students in 19 BFA programs, the Institute’s student-to-faculty ratio is 9:1.”

“So – Recent Work by Royden Watson.” Opening @ 6PM So… so what?! “So” is the name of Royden Watson’s latest exhibit @ Proximity Gallery. His work is fascinatingly linguistic and conversational. Proximity Gallery, 1667 East 40th, Cleveland 216.262.8903 www.proximitycleveland.com

The Way of All Flesh: A Shirley Aley Campbell Retrospective Opening @ 6PM. Cleveland artist Shirley Aley Campbell is one of the Midwest’s premier painters. “No one has represented the human body with a keener eye for muscular poise and thrust, capturing the poignancy and psychological weight of the flesh. The exhibition, curated by Douglas Utter, will feature her over-sized portraits and figural studies that show her highly-skilled draftsmanship.” Cleveland Artists Foundation, 17801 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, 216.227.9507, clevelandartists.org

“Brandt 21 – Celebrating 21 years of Brandt Gallery.” Opening 5PM. The Brandt Gallery in Tremont is turning 21! In this economy it’s hard for any business to survive, let alone a gallery… but the Brandt has stayed afloat for 21 freakin’ years. Kudos! “This year marks the anniversary of one of the first and longest running art galleries in the Tremont neighborhood. For 21 years, Jean Brandt, lawyer, musician, poet, and patron of the arts, has run a venue for new and established artists to exhibit their work in Cleveland. In honor of 21 years of Brandt Gallery and Ms. Brandt’s ongoing dedication and promotion of area artists and the Tremont Artwalk, we are organizing a retrospective exhibition where we hope to feature all of the artists that have shown there.” Brandt Gallery, 1028 Kenilworth, Cleveland, 216.621.1610, www.brandtgallery.org
