“Ales BASK Hostomsky. BOX OF FUN.” Opening Reception: 7-10 PM, Cleveland's favorite culture-spinning Czech vandal, Ales BASK Hostomsky comes back "home" with a portfolio of brand new, never-before seen, mixed-media works. Throwing innocence and purity right into the meat grinder, BASK's newest series of portraits are both playful at heart, and sinister by nature. Through these difficult times in which we live, BASK shows us that we can still have fun by manipulating our own realities, even while they constantly change around us. A metaphor… that indicates that in this twisted world, we don't always come out in the same manner in which we came in. In commemoration of BASK's fourth solo exhibition at WRG, the artist has partnered with 1xRun to make available a limited edition print titled, Fun Box Toons. This 24 x 24 in. giclee is printed on 330gsm archival cotton paper and is priced at $75 ea. The edition is available for seven days beginning Tuesday, November 15, and can only be purchased direct from 1xRun. Please join us for the Box of Fun After-Party, hosted at Lava Lounge, immediately following the gallery reception on November 19. An exhibition of new artworks from the portfolio, HEAT by Cleveland-based gallery owner and artist William Rupnik will be on view in the downstairs lounge. Lava Lounge is located at 1307 Auburn Avenue, in the historic Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. William Rupnik Gallery1117 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44115

La Meridiana Curtis Benzle--Porcelain-Color & Light April 22-29, 2012

“Porcelain: Color and Light”, will celebrate the beauty and magic of light as it accentuates color, expands form and energizes surfaces in translucent porcelain. We will discuss the unique, light transmitting characteristics of vitreous porcelain and will follow up with an exploration of techniques used to color and incorporate color and light into our artwork. Topics will include relief carving (lithophane), color additions, colored clay techniques and porcelain formulas, as we consider colored, translucent porcelain in its many manifestations; sculpture, pottery (agateware or neriagi), translucent lighting and jewelry. Mornings will be devoted to exploration---demonstrations and technical discussions aimed at unlocking mysteries, expanding knowledge and empowering creativity. Afternoons will be devoted to making. Your quiet, personal experimentation or technical guidance and assistance---whatever it takes to help you bring out the best. The workshop fee for the students includes tuition ( 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time - we do close the studio at night, unlike Americans – but here is to explore restaurants and wineries at night), materials and firings, lodging, welcome dinner and a freshly prepared Tuscan lunch on the working days and a wine tasting dinner on one of the evenings of the week. Other outings like evening trips to San Gimignano and Certaldo alto or cooking lessons can be organized at request, to be paid extra. The final cost for the students is of Euros 910($1,240).
