NOC’s Own Bette Drake (Image Above) is featured in Holden Arboretum’s annual Gifts from the Heart of Nature show/sale which opens this Fri 11/15 with a preview party open 3-8PM. Get a head-start on your holiday shopping and enjoy light refreshments & live music plus an opportunity to meet the artists. This holiday gift sale will be open daily in the Arboretum’s visitor center through Sun 1/5.  This unique show features nature inspired works and crafts made from environmentally responsible materials by regional artists. Jury selected items available include pottery, jewelry, household goods, apparel, accessories, food items, ornaments and more. Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery 1305 West 80th St., Cleveland, 216.870.6719  “Judith Brandon:  Turbulent Territory.”  Opening  5-9pm.  Judith Brandon's mastery of drawing is evident in every piece she creates, but it is the way in which she uses that mastery to forge a link between herself and the viewer that makes her work so exceptional. Her work has a sense of mystery and a powerful gravity, a subtle but irresistible pull that draws the viewer in and gives one a sense of being a privileged witness to epic moments in flux. 

West 78th Street Studios, 1300 W. 78th Street, Cleveland “Derek Hess-solo exhibition.”  Opening 5pm.  Hess will present multiple bodies of work – including drawings on vintage Playboy covers and 8-track tapes.  The evening will also include a book signing and the premiere of Nick Cavalier’s documentary on Hess’ life and work

Stocker Arts Center (LCCC) 1005 N ABbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.  “Radius: An Artist Sketchbook Project.”  Opening 4:30pm. Want to see into an artist’s soul? Don’t just look at their finished pieces of art work — the real stuff lies in their sketchbooks.  Sketchbooks are repositories for quick drawings, random thoughts and odd cartoons. It’s the place to brainstorm, to creatively solve problems. But they’re mostly private — until now. Lorain County Community College presents Radius: An Artist Sketchbook Project featuring the sketchbooks of a dozen Northeast Ohio artists, including Lorain native Bob Cutlip. 
Cleveland Print Room (in Artcraft Building), 2550 Superior Ave, Suite 102, Cleve., 216.401.5981 “2013 Members Photography Show.”  Opening 6pm. The show is free and open to the public and will feature styles such as commercial and studio work, portraiture, editorial, aerial photography, fashion, architectural imagery and many others.
Wasmer Gallery-Ursuline.  2550 Lander Road, Cleveland.  “Winter Art Invitational: 13 Artists & @UnivofDayton’s Crèche Collection.”  Opening 5pm. This Friday, Ursuline College presents The Winter Art Invitational featuring the University of Dayton International Crèche Collection.  The exhibition features 13 regional artists and more than 50 crèches (Christmas nativity scenes).  The University of Dayton’s Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute holds the largest collection of printed material on the Virgin Mary in the world – as well as nearly 3,000 crèches from around the world.  The crèches range in styles and designs, reflecting the diverse cultures of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.

“STUDIO OPEN HOUSE AND ART SALE.”  Clay artist Bonnie Gordon will be showing new works in porcelain at her studio/home in Seville in November.  Joining Bonnie will be Chad Gordon (infrared photography); Rozanne Anderson (jewelry and paintings); Kate Disch (leather handbags); Polly Gilmore (blown glass); Elaine Lamb (functional porcelain and ornaments); Bonnie MacKay (enamels); Carol Thombs (felted alpaca) and Rob Sanford (glass/wood lamps).  Two Weekends:  Saturday, Nov. 16 – 10 AM to 6 PM.  Sunday – Nov 17 – 11 AM to 4 PM.  Saturday, Nov. 23 – 10 AM to 6 PM.
