Myers School of Art, Folk Hall Room 165,  150 E. Exchange Street, Akron, OH “Garth Clark.”  A 90-Minute Roller Coaster Ride through the Ceramic Revolution. This lively multi-media presentation marks Garth Clark’s last international tour.  FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC  Reception at 5:30, Lecture at 6:00.  After five decades in the field, Clark remains a provocative, witty voice, now stimulating a new wave of controversy in the community. A prolific author, Clark is the founder of global ceramics community Cfile.Org and publisher of Cfile.Daily, reaching 75,000 people in 196 countries every week.  Clark has spoken to hundreds of audiences on five continents, sharing his critical vision on the modern history of ceramics. He is currently completing two books: Mind Mud: The Conceptual Ceramics of Ai Weiwei, and Lucio Fontana: Ceramics.

Brick Ceramic + Design, 420 East 161st St., CLE www.brickceramics.com  “Workshop.”  Hours 10-2 both days. 1 hour lunch break (please pack or money for lunch)  In this weekend workshop, you will learn how to take pottery to the next level by focusing on surface design. Learn how to carve, etch and stencil patterns, images and textures onto your pottery. Participants will learn Sgraffito, Mishima (Underglaze/Slip Inlay) Stamping, monoprinting as well as water etching. If you are interested in decorating your own pottery, please bring GREEN/LEATHERHARD pots to the workshop as we will do most of the decorating before the bisque state.    (If you are passionate about drawing, a printmaker or textile artist looking to expand your practice into clay, THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU!)  Eleanor will also throw cylinders or make tiles for artists to decorate. All levels of artists are welcome to sign up. NO CLAY EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

This presentation and workshop is FREE for Current NOC members,  $5 for students with valid ID and $20 for non-members.  If you would like to join NOC, Membership is $25 a year and can be paid at the event.
